Miniature Horses in EAL Programs

Join us to discuss EAL programs with miniature horses.  Besides the obvious size difference between miniature and full size horses, we’ll discuss the considerations and differences of facilitating EAL with miniature horses, including EAL activities and safety considerations.  Specifically, we’ll explore some of the advantages of EAL programs with minis.  Please bring your questions and we’ll answer them.

You'll learn:

·       The main differences between miniature horses and full size horses

·       How EAL activities are different with miniature horses

·       About integrating both miniature and full size horses in EAL programs

·       We’ll answer your questions about miniature horses and EAL programs

Kim and Todd Shook of Bella Terra Acres developed the first EAL program exclusively with miniature horses.  Ginny Telego's EAL program at Wager's Way is with miniature and full size horses.  Come join us for a discussion to learn more about EAL programs with miniature horses!

Todd and Kim Shook founded their equine experiential education program called Bella Terra, located outside of Kalamazoo, Michigan.  After showing miniature horses at the national level for a few years, they started the first team building program exclusively with miniature horses. The equine program began with the focus on team building, leadership development, and personal growth experiences with horses that leveraged principles such as StrengthsFinder, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, The Four Agreements, and Mindfulness, to name a few.  When Todd became a licensed therapist, they added Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) to their program.  Years ago, Todd discovered that team building and communications skills for the team environment apply effectively in the personal development setting to help people make changes to move forward in their lives.  Todd specifically uses the concepts and materials from the E3A certification program with his personal growth clients.
